"TL;DR: if you want someone who clearly loves the craft and can make you love it too, definitely pick Roxas! I have played a couple of D&D games before but never really felt like I fully understood how to play or what to do so it prevented me from joining more. If you've felt like that or are a complete beginner, I would absolutely think Roxas is the perfect DM for you. I always dread things like character creation but he made it fun! I got to focus on what I actually wanted to do versus having to go through all the pages and get confused or annoyed that it feels like homework. He gives you the info you need, answers your questions, and just literally helps you learn so you know what you're doing more and more every time. Aside from that, he puts a lot of effort in making the world as immersive as possible; you've got visuals, sounds that match the mood, voices that make you forget it was just a call, the works! He also tries to learn new ways to add more to the experience, which is refreshing to see in someone who already does so wonderfully. Lastly, even though he definitely knows when to be serious when need be, he's just fun and funny as heck generally! He rifts off your jokes and makes every joke so much better, and has a way with pulling people together and making a group of strangers feel more comfortable. I genuinely feel so lucky to have gotten a chance to play a campaign with a DM like Roxas; I never thought I could enjoy D&D this much. "

"Had our first session today. Review based upon interview, character creation, up through the first session of our Curse of Strahd campaign. Interview was great. I got to learn Roxar's DM rules and guidelines and what to expect from him. He addressed all of my concerns that has previously resulted in me leaving unsatisfactory campaigns. Then he asked what it was I was looking for, preparing to cater to his players needs as best he could. Was very helpful through the character creation process, helping to make sure our PCs would be compliant and also not poorly done. First session was awesome. A couple of my friends are also in the campaign, including my DM from our live game. We were all very happy with the session. Roxar gave each of us freedom to use our PCs and we did have a single combat that was well paced and difficult enough that TPK was a real possibly. Roxar has an excellent voice. Several times throughout the session, I was honestly wondering if I was listening to a pre-recorded narrator, he should be doing that for a living if he isn't. Ambiant sounds were also fantastic. Music was top notch. I know you only get to choose three tags, but based on my experience thus far, I wish I could have used more."

"The best part about Roxas' game is that it feels real. I've played in multiple games and if you are looking for a game that is as close to realism as it gets this is the one. The combat feels like life or death. The NPC's have individual personalities, and his set up on Forge makes everything come to life on the screen. That being said, you might die. But without the actual risk of loss, is there a real point? I feel like other DM's are too lenient when it comes to player death. Not that he is out to get you, but if the mechanics or the fight would kill you. You would die. "

"I have decided to update this review, as until now, I had only played one campaign with Roxas. As we started a new campaign, I have to say, I was already impressed with Roxas' ability with his voice acting. This was in "Curse of Strahd", which is tough, as there really is only one accent, with very few opportunities to branch past that particular accent. His variations on that accent were pretty damn good, though, and there was no confusing one NPC from another. After starting this new campaign (Critical Role: Call of the Netherdeep) though, I am very impressed with his range of voices and accents, and his ability at Improv, to really bring a recognizable personality to each individual NPC. This might seem like a small thing, but when it comes to the ability of a DM to help his players immerse themselves into a gaming session, and encourage role-playing in a natural, organic way, this ability really is invaluable. Roxas has this in spades. The review below still stands: Roxas is a badass DM. The above "extended" review, comes after playing his sessions for almost a year, and as a DM here on StartPlaying myself (in no small part to Roxas' creative inspiration), I have to say that he is part of that rarified "gold standard" of GM's. Previous review: I decided to wait for several sessions before posting a review. From the very first session, I was deeply impressed. The patience, knowledge, creativity, and acting ability continues to impress me with each successive session. The amount of preparation Roxas has put into his sessions is incredible.
